Adverbs

Adverbs are often generated from adjectives in one of the three following ways:

  • By repeating an adjective (less formal) (the first word stressed)
  • Using the following “adverb suffix” (more formal) :
Suffix: -ce (2), -çe (2) (not stressed)
  • Appending the word “olarak” = being (most formal) (not stressed)

Note:

  • The suffix -ce (2), -çe (2) (not stressed) can also be used to mean: almost, fairly.
Example: büyükçe= fairly large, genişçe = fairly wide, uzunca = fairly long.
  • "Repeating an adjective” can also be used to mean the same as the adjective (ie not an adverb), but expressing a repeating act or a sequence.
