Everything is a Remix: Learning2.0 Edition

Nobody starts out original. We need copying to build a foundation of knowledge and understanding. And after that… things can get interesting.”

Everything is a Remix- Vol II

We live in a world and culture of Remix. Old ideas are constantly being reimagined and reinvented. Mash-ups, memes, and Gifs are being created at a dizzying rate. Our students are just some of the people who are combining songs, altering images, and rewording lyrics and literature to make create something that represents them as individuals.  One of the major concepts of remix is that “creativity requires influence”. Therefore, this session will look at how as teachers we can help our students through exploring the remix culture within the context of our curriculum in our classroom.

This session will allow teacher to discover how the remix culture is evolving in the age of instant and ubiquitous access to the internet. Participants will explore the ethical implications of remix and where to access images, music, movies that can be used in the classroom when creating remixes. And most importantly, teachers will work to understand how remix can be used to support learning while allowing for student choice and creativity.
