Surge Test

Surge Test Voltages and Standards

As requested by IEEE Std 522-1992-2004, surge test or so called impulse winding test has been largely applied to ensure turn to turn insulation of coils used for stators, transformers, inductors, power chokes, and electric valves...etc, mostly in the field of automotive industry.

The concept of Surge test is pretty simply and surge testers are used for mainly two purposes:

1. Compare the waveform of a coil sample of perfect quality with the rest coils, by doing this the winding product manufacturers, such as transformer, stator, amature, magnetic valve, power choke...etc, can easily ensure the quality equality.

2. Find out the corona discharge amount of coils, too much corona discharge is possibly caused by poor or broken insulation coating of wires.

Our IWT Series surge tester, impulse winding tester ranges from 1,000V to 10,000V and is simply durable and easy to use. They come with VB source codes for customers to track test records with ease, and it can also be integrated into test system with its external handler interface.
