The goal of the Louisiana Council of Teachers of English is to help the teachers of English-language arts, grades kindergarten through graduate school, stay abreast of the latest changes in the field and to help them enable their students to reach their greatest potential. In order to achieve this goal, LCTE offers the following resources:
 A state-wide annual conference held each fall, offering insights and CLUs
The Louisiana English Journal, published annually to coincide with the fall conference, which contains classroom ideas, academic writing, and original creative writing

Council Notes, published four times a year: the organization's official newsletter 

 The English Expo, an exciting competition in English language arts skills for high school students


As an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English, LCTE also helps support the activities of the national council.
