Service Learning (SL) is another element to our case study lessons and makes it unique. Although, case study or problem-base learning or inquiry model does not require a service learning component, I felt that the mission of SL corresponds to the mission of case study to teaching science.
According to the Learn and Serve America's National Service-Learning Clearinghouse website, "Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities," (http://www.servicelearning.org/).
Here are few of past and current Service Learning Projects:
1. Morrison Creek Project
2. LBHS Health Fair Project
3. Natural Disaster Kit for Senior Citizens
4. KVIE Public Television Pledge Drive Project
5. MLK Project: http://www.handsonsacto.org/
6. Aspen Management Project
In order for our SL Projects to work, we want to THANK our sponsors and community donors such as PASCO and INTEL Grant, Hp Technology for Teaching Grant, Fire Science and Technology Academy Grant, and partnerships with different local and state agencies!
