Service Changes at the Lawrence County Public Library

(Moulton, AL), (August 18, 2015) – In order to best conserve funds for the upcoming fiscal year, the Lawrence County Public Library will implement service changes beginning the week of August 24th.  These changes are being implemented as we anticipate budget cuts beginning October 1st, 2015.

The library will begin closing at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays beginning August 28th.  The new hours of operations will be:

Monday – Thursday:  9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday:  9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

While a small change, this change will allow the Lawrence County Public Library to remain compliant with the State of Alabama guidelines.  These guidelines require public libraries serving a population exceeding 5,000 people to be open a minimum of 40 hours per week in order to remain eligible for supplemental assistance in the form of State Aid.  As Friday is the slowest day of the week, reducing hours on this day will have the least impact to library patrons and allow the library to cut costs by approximately $1,250 annually.

The following service changes were also approved by the Library’s Board of Trustees:

Fax & Copy services will end 15 minutes prior to closing.
The library entrance will be locked five minutes prior to closing to allow staff to focus on processing patrons checking out their final selections.

While the library regrets having to making these changes, these changes will assist the Lawrence County Public Library in conserving funds for the future.
