Help Keep the Lights On at the Lawrence County Public Library

(Moulton, AL) – October 28, 2016 – The Lawrence County Public Library will be launching its “Help Keep the Lights On” fundraiser on November 1, 2016.  This fundraiser will last until January 6, 2017 with the goal of helping make up the shortfall in local funding to the library.  Donations can be made online at, in person at the library, or via mail.

Library funding has dropped significantly over the past year.  The library has responded by cutting staff, closing the library 4 weeks per year, and reducing the budget for new books and materials by 50%.  While tightening the library’s belt, your help is still needed.  The library can keep the lights on by closing a $22,850 funding gap with 5 organizations or people funding the library for one week at $2,680 each; and 5 people or organizations funding one day at $536 each; and 100 people or organizations funding one hour at $67 each.

Based on the cost of operating the library at $67/hour, we currently project the library will have a financial gap in maintaining the library operational the minimum required 40 hours/week to qualify for the State of Alabama’s Supplemental Assistance.  Assuming the library had all projected income at the beginning of the fiscal year, the library would have funds to operate until June 12, 2017.  Our top three funding sources fund the library for the following number of days:

City of Moulton:  75
State of Alabama Supplemental Assistance:  51
Lawrence County Commission:  24

The Lawrence County Public Library has been serving Lawrence County for over 40 years in our current location.  Libraries have an ever growing impact in their communities as a source of information access, employment searches, and activity centers.  Your donation will allow us to apply your gift where it is needed most.  Contributions help us further our collections materials, increase programming, update computers/furniture, maintain the library, and much more.

Donate today at and help light up your library!  Donations are tax exempt.
