Day of Action with the United Way

posted Jun 5, 2013, 3:15 PM by Lawrence County Public Library
The United Way “Day of Action” is the day we stand up for ourselves, our friends, our families and our community to pledge to change the course of our future.   As a part of this, the Lawrence County Public Library will participate on June 21st, 2013 by hosting a reading from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Parents and children of all ages are invited to attend!

For our “Day of Action” contribution, the Lawrence County Public Library proposes to fill four hours of reading from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21st.  In order to do this, we need volunteers to sign-up to read to the youth with the amount of time you can dedicate to this project.  The reading time slots will be assigned on a first come basis.  The Lawrence County Public Library invites you to join us in being active in our community!

According to the United Way, “Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. In America, more than 1.2 million children drop out of high school annually creating an education crisis costing billions of dollars. At United Way Day of Action 2011 we launched a three-year goal to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors to help improve the academic success of young people across America.”  Please help the United Way and the Lawrence County Public Library as we Read for our Future!
