Change to Library Closure Schedule for Technology Upgrades

posted Sep 15, 2016, 11:09 AM by Lawrence County Public Library

(Moulton, AL) – September 12, 2016 – The Lawrence County Public Library was originally scheduled to be closed Monday and Tuesday, September 19th and 20th for technology upgrades funded by a special end of the fiscal year LSTA bonus grant.  Our technology service partner has rescheduled the install date to Wednesday and Thursday, September 20th and 21st.  The process to completely integrate the new systems may take longer, and the library requests the public to bear with us as these enhancements are brought online.  This grant will make it possible for the Lawrence County Public Library to replace all aging computers currently in the library, as well as, introduce new technologies.

As part of the grant award, the library will be replacing some of its current furniture.  The furniture installation has been scheduled to begin Thursday, September 29th and complete Friday, September 30th.  The library will close at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th and reopen Monday, October 3rd.

The library would prefer to install furniture first and technology second; however, the terms of the grant requires all purchases and work be completed no later than September 30th.  Given the tight deadlines, the library is having to work with vendors who can meet the time constraints required by the grant.

The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) is the only federal program exclusively for libraries. It is administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). State libraries use the funds to support statewide initiatives and also distribute the funds through subgrants or cooperative agreements to public, school, academic, research, and special libraries. There is a requirement for a state match, which helps stimulate approximately three to four dollars for every federal dollar invested.  The LSTA grant was awarded to the Lawrence County Public Library by the Alabama Public Library Service.
