About me

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the Monash Business School, Monash University.

My research rigorously pursues a broad set of policy-relevant questions primarily in the field of International Trade. My work has been published in the American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, and the Journal of Applied Econometrics, among other leading international journals.

I am currently working on an Australian Research Council Discovery Project that explores the legal, political and economic causes and consequences of investment screening policies primarily implemented on the basis of national security concerns. A different area of my current research focuses on accurately identifying the effect of trade policy, particularly non-tariff measures, on trade and countries’ welfare. My previous research (still very much in my mind) has focused on understanding the effects of trade on growth, volatility and the environment.

I am a co-organiser of the Melbourne Trade Workshop and the Online Australian Seminar in International economicS (OASIS). If interested in the OASIS, please join us by registering here.

I am a PI of SoDa Labs at Monash University, an empirical research laboratory that applies new tools from data science to answer social science questions.

Finally, I teach undergraduate International Economics. Here you find the media resources I use to engage my students. Feel free to use them or to contact me with additional resources to share publicly.
