Purpose:
The Laupāhoehoe Advisory Council (LAC) was formed in December 2010 per the HETF Cooperative Agreement: “the Parties will consult with scientists, managers, general citizens, and local community members concerning ongoing research activities. Existing State-sanctioned advisory councils may be utilized for this purpose.”
The purpose of the Laupāhoehoe Advisory Council (LAC) is to provide the Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and the US Forest Service (USFS) guidance and consultation relating to management, research, and other activities within the State lands that comprise the Hawai‘i Experimental Tropical Forest (HETF).
Mission:
Within our Hawaiian Culture establish community support in the development of strategies for the long-term management, protection and utilization of existing and potential forest resources.
HETF Webinar Series
The original HETF seminar series transformed into a webinar series in 2020 during the pandemic as a way for researchers to fulfill a permit condition, requiring HETF researchers to “give back to the community”. Moving to a virtual platform has allowed for a broader number of participants to attend.
If you would like to receive invitations to register for the monthly 2024 webinars, please email SM.FS.hetf@usda.gov stating your interest. To stay up-to-date with our most recent webinar, below is a YouTube playlist of all of our past presentations.
