The basement plan by Morgan & Wall, 1909

Heading back toward the stage from
the lobby portion of the basement.

We're in a corridor along the house right side of the basement.

Unique theatre basement feature: Up ahead on the right is a
window -- one of a number on both sides of the basement. They
have light wells with subway grating on them to allow light
to the basement.

The main building switchboard.

Not live front, so probably a 30s re-do.
The board originally had both AC and DC sections.

We're about halfway back on the house
 right side of the basement.

Another look at the main switchboard.

A warren of dressing rooms.

Here we're not yet back under the stage. You're looking
north along a dressing room corridor. The wall on the right
is the front of the orchestra pit. That bit of duct above the arrow
on the beam is supply air up to a mushroom. The dressing
room and trap room areas are sprinkled.

In the trap room looking north.

Dressing rooms to the right, musician's
room and orchestra pit to the left.

There are stairs up to the stage at both ends of the room. Here
looking north the stairs are off in the far right corner out of sight.
Off to the left at the far end is the fan room / dimmer room.

We're in the fan room looking at the
main supply fan for the theatre.

Steam pipes head from here back to the boiler room under the lobby.

We're on the house left side of the basement here (just forward
of the proscenium wall).  It's also an electrical equipment room
as we're directly under the stage switchboard.

We're in the basement just downstage of the proscenium
firewall looking up. Note that the dimmers we see are controlled
by tracker rods from the stage switchboard above.

The basement ductwork plan by Morgan & Wall, 1909

Another basement view looking north.

photo: Bill Counter - 2011

Note the slope of the auditorium floor above.
That's a window just to the right of the reddish hollow
tile wall -- allowing light from above.

Some of that ductwork you see is
supply air up to the mushrooms.

Farther forward in the basement.

photo: Bill Counter - 2011

Note more supply air ducting.  Dressing rooms
begin behind the brick wall.  Stage is to the right.

A curious gas water heater in the basement.

Another view in the trap room -- upstage is to the right.

Some decorative detail remaining in the
orchestra pit on the house left side.

Looking the length of the pit.

The stage is to our left, the auditorium to the right.  Note
another decorative plaster area at the end of the pit.

A view of the trap room looking south on the
Downtown Filming site.  We're looking toward the stairs
going up to stage left. The pit is on the right and dressing
rooms up against the theatre's back wall are on the left.

Over by the stage left stairs. We're looking toward
Broadway and down the long corridor that leads to the
basement space under the lobby.

In the basement under the auditorium. We're looking south
with the downstage wall of the orchestra pit on the left and
dressing rooms on the right.  At the end of the view is the
corridor along the house right side of the basement.
Turn right and you'll head toward the lobby.
