Welcome to the new look and feel of the Estonia - Latvia Programme newsletter! It will still have the same name – Latest from Estlat – and it will still contain information from the programme and from programme-supported projects between Estonia and Latvia. What will change is the design of the newsletter – you will be able to read it online and browse through the stories. The Monitoring Committee of the Programme has decided to allocate the remaining funding of current period resources to projects of strategic importance to both countries. The following project ideas are considered: improving traffic conditions on Ape - Mõniste road, improving water tourism through Riverways, coordinating Costal and maritime spatial planning, reconstructing the historic Valga railway station and building Valka Fire and Rescure station. Currently the details for implementing these project ideas are being developed by the project partners. Read more
Six new projects have been approved in the last call for proposals, to strengthen Estonian-Latvian ties in classical and traditional music, art education, organizing of craft markets, as well as finding joint solutions for such practical issue as drainage system improvement. Altogether 622 891 EUR funding has been allocated for these new projects. Financing decisions were made during the Programme’s Monitoring Committee meeting on 13-14 December, 2011, in Sigulda, Latvia. Read more
“Field guide for identification of large nests” has been published under the Estonia – Latvia Programme supported project “Eagles across borders”. This pocket-sized guide is aimed primarily to forestry workers, to help them to clarify the relevance of large nest found in forest to a particular bird species. In field guide, 14 bird species are described, the sparrow-hawk being the smallest and the white-tailed eagle and black stork being the largest. Read more
Estonia – Latvia Programme website Estlat.eu has been shortlisted among this year’s finalists for European Commission’s prestigious Regio Stars Awards for Innovative Projects. It is one of four projects in the category “Information and communication” that are recognized for successful practice of informing the public on the internet about projects benefiting from EU Regional policy. In March Estonia – Latvia Programme project partners participated in Communication seminars in Viljandi, Estonia, and Riga, Latvia, to learn about new, more effective ways to communicate what their projects are doing to wider audience and share experiences among each other. Estonian partners participated in a seminar moderated by Ainar Ruussaar and Janek Mäggi, while a seminar for Latvian partners was moderated by Ilze Dobele and Māra Majore – Linē. Read more
Starting January 2012, Estonia – Latvia Programme has its own profile on social networking site Facebook. You can find us there if you search “Estonia – Latvia Programme”. Once you have found us, you should press “I like” and you will receive our latest updates on your wall. Programme plans to use Facebook profile to reach out to more people and tell them stories about the results of programme funded cooperation projects by partners in Estonia and Latvia.
