Associate Professor of Philosophy, Bates College.

I teach in the Department of Philosophy at Bates College in Maine. I work primarily on the metaphysics of dispositions, their connection to desiring, the self-knowledge of desire, and various topics in feminist philosophy. I also have very strong views on the metaphysical nature of muppets.

My PhD dissertation, written at MIT (completed 2009), focused on desire and dispositional properties, and I have published work on those topics in The Australasian Journaof PhilosophyPhilosophical Studies, and Philosophy Compass, and on objectification in fashion with Rae Langton. Here's my CV.

I mostly teach metaphysics, epistemology, feminist philosophy, and lots of logic. This semester, I am teaching Introduction to Logic and a senior seminar on Self-Knowledge.

When not doing philosophy, I work on house renovation projects, sing karaoke, do puppet improv and design puppet couture, and run marathons...not necessarily well, but with enthusiasm.
