UW Astronomy: (2) Gift certificates for a private viewing party at UW Madison's historic Washburn Observatory!  Washburn Observatory was built in 1880 and, until 1958, was the University's primary research telescope. Since then it has continued to delight the public with its amazing views of the night sky and rich history. This isn't just a telescope; it's an antique! Winners will receive a private night of observing for themselves and up to 30 guests. The night will be led by a current UW Astronomy PhD student and will include information about the history of the telescope along with observations of stars, planets, galaxies, and clusters. The specific objects observed depend on time of year. Winners will be contacted by the telescope operator to set up a date that ensures clear skies. A typical night for a small group (~5) lasts roughly an hour (longer if there are more people), but if you are having a good time you can stay until sunrise! Winter Mitten Drive
We are so grateful to Capitol Kids for providing Lapham kids with 20 pairs of waterproof mittens during the tail end of winter! It can be challenging to find quality mittens during the late weeks of winter, but Capitol Kids came to the rescue! And they donated $10 from their gift-wrapping tip jar to our Family Support Committee. Thank you for your enduring commitment to our community's kids, Capitol Kids!

2013 Packers & Pumpkins
Families and teachers from Lapham & Marquette Elementary Schools gathered at Marquette on Sunday, October 20th to celebrate autumn in all it's glory! We had pumpkins galore for the kids to decorate; yummy brats, hotdogs and veggie dogs to eat; home-baked treats for desert and a Packer game on the big screen. The pumpkins were provided at a generous discount by Sugar River Farm (owned and operated by Terri Belz, Lapham Teacher/Farmer), Boo's Pumpkin Patch (owned and operated by Shelley Wittman-Bisch, Evansville Teacher/Farmer) and Fair Oaks Garden & Nursery Center. Thank you for supporting local sustainable agriculture and our schools!

2013 Lapham Garden Fall Celebration Potluck
Big thanks to Ian's Pizza for not only donating six pizzas to our Fall Celebration Potluck, but also cooking the pizzas with fresh fruits and veggies that Lapham students harvested during our All School Harvest Day! It was such a treat!

PTG Monthly Meetings 2013-2014
The flame in our collective heart continues to burn for Roman Candle Pizzeria as they pledge to continue to provide great pizza for our PTG Monthly Meetings. We received 12 pizzas at cost for our first (very large!) start-of-the-year meeting and we will continue to receive FREE pizza for all monthly PTG meetings this school year. They were even gracious enough to take fresh produce from Lapham's Garden to prepare the pizzas they donated for our special "Growing Great Kids with School Gardens" October PTG meeting. Hooray and thanks!

Family Fun Night, April 2013
We are so grateful to the following businesses for supporting our community's kids by donating or discounting their goods and/or time to make Family Fun Night a smashing success!

Games: UW-Madison students from Sigma Alpha Omega for helping with the games and National Society of Collegiate Scholars who helped with the bouncy houses. From all accounts, they did a wonderful job.

Books as Prizes: Half Price Books and the many, many parents who donated books! Altogether, we ended up collecting about eight boxes of books and were able to distribute just over half of them at Family Fun Night. The rest will be donated to the newly formed Family Support Committee.
