Junior Rowing

Junior Rowing takes place on most Saturdays throughout the year meeting at Northney Marina at 12.15pm for 12.30pm on the water, the session finishes at 2pm.  The sessions, lasting 90 minutes, are open to all juniors aged between 12 and 16.  To enjoy rowing you don't have to be good at sport: wanting to give it a go is the only special requirement!  The first 2 rows are free but after that we would hope that you join our club. There is no joining fee for juniors, a small monthly subscription and members pay only £1 for each row.

Our fully qualified junior coaches and trainers will give you excellent tuition and ensure that you are safe and happy whilst learning to row on the water.  During these sessions you’ll be introduced to the sport, the boats and some of the techniques that you’ll need. It’s a friendly, informal way to get started and gives you the chance to get out on the water. We provide Lifejackets for all juniors. Langstone Pilot Gig Club juniors can row not only in our lovely harbours, but we also visit many other clubs during the Regatta season. If they wish to our young rowers can compete in Junior races in Lyme Regis, Clovelly, Weymouth, Swanage, Bridport, Sidmouth, Hayle and Newquay during the year. There are opportunities for rowing in fun events on the Hamble, Bristol Harbour and the River Thames! The club also hold Mini-Regattas where we have fun racing against each other in Chichester Harbour! We also try to encourage our Juniors to come out on social rows during school holidays and bank holidays where we try to visit Emsworth, East Head or other local places.

Along with fun on the water whilst learning to row we make sure our juniors have lots of fun with social events throughout the year. Easter Fun Days, Beach Days, Film Nights, Playzone and Flipout parties, Halloween and Christmas parties.  There is always something going on for them to get involved in and we also encourage our juniors to take part in club decisions with their own Junior Committee.

Prior to rowing the first time there is some parental permission paperwork that needs to be completed (please click on links below). Please print these out and bring the completed forms along with you.
