Race to Puffin Island

Christine Ball reports: Beaumaris rowing club hosted the fifth round Puffin Island rowing race for WSRA Celtic Longboats. The day was extremely hot with light breeze, which made for unusually calm waters.  12 boats rowed from Beaumaris, along the scenic Menai Strait around the majestic Puffin Island and back through Puffin sound, to return to Beaumaris. 10 miles in all. Langstone Cutters (from left, Dave, me, Jenny, Rachel and Steve) were kindly loaned a boat and entered a mixed veteran crew, coming 2nd in this category, 8th overall and made it the first international race.
We enjoyed a very friendly welcome, an amazingly hot row, with breathtaking views of mountains and wild life to distract us! Seals, Cormorants, Guillemots and Puffins, were seen. We were then given a lovely lunch, followed by the prize giving.
