Mount Vernon Estate
As a guest of Mount Vernon during the Missouri Teacher Weekend Workshop in September of 2014, I had the unique opportunity to study and stay on the Mount Vernon grounds. George Washington would typically get up early in the morning and often sit on the porch on the back of the mansion and look out over the Potomac while watching the sunrise. Each day during my stay on the estate I would get up and take a walk to the mansion to also watch the sunrise. On one morning as I returned to my quarters I stopped to take a picture on the mansion. I selected the dramatic filter on my camera and it made the morning sky really pop in the background. One of the things I like about this photo is the glow of the sunrise bouncing off the side of the mansion in the photo. I also really like the way that the weathervane, a dove representing peace, shines on the top of the cupola. One of my favorite pictures ever of a place that I truly love to visit.
