DetailsThis tour is open to any student who may be interested in attending a Historical Black College or University. We encourage all students to take a look at the schools on the list and decide whether or not they are interested in attending.

Michigan College Tour: Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, University of Michigan & Albion College

Who: Rising Juniors & Seniors

Details
: We will be taking juniors and seniors to visit four amazing, but very different schools in North Carolina. This trip will take place Wednesday, October 26th (

Requirements: At least a 3.7 weighted GPA

RegistrationBefore being considered for this trip, the application must be HANDED to Ms. Caracci (Room 320 or 322A – do not put them in mailbox). The COMPLETE application (attached form with essay answers) is due no later than 8:00 am on Monday, June 6th.

Details: Lane Tech counseling staff will be taking 40 Juniors interested in attending Carthage College. Students will receive a tour of campus, meet with admissions counselors and enjoy lunch on campus.

Details: We have booked time on a non-attendance day for students to visit the downtown campus of Arrupe College. Students will be responsible for their own transportation and will meet at 1 E. Pearson St., Chicago, IL 60611 (corner of Pearson and State St.) at 9:30 a.m. There will not be a Lane Tech chaperon on this trip.

Who: Sophomores & Juniors (at least 3.8 weighted GPA) interested in Liberal Arts Colleges

Cost: $285

Details: This fall we will be taking 30 – 36 students to visit four amazing, but very different schools in the state of Minnesota. These schools are affordable or have good reputations for giving students money for college. This trip will take place Wednesday, September 30th – Saturday, October 3rd. Your student will have to miss classes on those days and need to get a permit signed by all teachers in order to attend. However, the Lane Tech College Prep administration has approved this educational trip. Please consider allowing your student to visit four schools at a reasonable cost. Details: Students will have the opportunity to visit Kendall College in Chicago.  Kendall College is known for their culinary arts and hospitality management programs.  You will receive a tour of the campus, meet with admission counselors, and see a chef demonstration.  Students will depart from Lane Tech at 9:00am and return at approximately 1:00pm.  You will be signed out of 2nd-6th periods.  

Requirements: At least a 2.5 GPA

University of Illinois at Chicago College Tour

"Escape to Mecca" College Tour: Howard University

When: April 17th - 21st, 2013

What: Ten years ago, Chicago People’s Union, a student organization at Howard University launched, its 1st Annual Escape to Mecca Tour Program (E2M) in conjunction with Chicago Public Schools.  2013 marks a milestone year of a college tour unlike any other!  E2M is a college experience designed to expose talented high school students from Illinois to the greatness of the Mecca of African American education, Howard University, by immersing participants in the educational, cultural, and social environment of the campus and D. C. area.  Student participants live in the dormitory and dine in the cafeteria with a CPU host, attend classes, meet with various school administrators, and engage in campus social events.

Cost:  There is a $350 fee which includes travel, chaperone lodging and some meals. A non-refundable down payment of $150 is due February 23 and by March 1 for select interview candidates.  Final payment for all is due March 15.


Requirements:  Juniors AND Seniors with an unweighted GPA of at least 2.7 and a PLAN/ACT score of 18 or more are eligible to apply. Seniors must be a prospective student with proof of acceptance or confirmation receipt of application from Admissions, and proof of a submitted FAFSA.

To participate in the Escape to Mecca Tour (E2M), students must:

1. Submit completed application packet outlined below by February 15, 2013 application deadline.

o Necessary signatures, completed cover sheet, and teacher recommendations
o Unofficial copy of transcript and test score
o Copy of acceptance letter, OR receipt of application AND FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) [Seniors ONLY]
2.  Commit to attend a pre-selection interview if required (February 23)
3.  Commit to attending a mandatory Student and-Parent Orientation (April 10)
4.  Pay $350 tour fee (by due dates NO EXCEPTION). Costs includes a non-refundable registration fee of $150

Philidelphia Freedom College Tour: Princeton University, Swarthmore College, Villanova University, University of Pennsylvannia

When: April 9th - 12th, 2013

What:  This spring, April 9th – 12th, we will be taking 25 juniors to visit four schools in the Philadelphia area. Students will have to miss classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (we leave after school on Tuesday and Friday is a HALF day). Students must get a permit signed by all teachers in order to attend. Students will have the opportunity to visit Princeton, Swarthmore, Villanova, and Pennsylvania as well as explore the sights of Philadelphia.  Feel free to contact Ms. Sarah Langford with questions at

Cost: $410. This amount includes airfare, meals, charter transportation, lodging, tickets to the baseball game and the cost of chaperones.

When: March 24th- 30th

What: goCAMPUSing, Inc. a Nationally Recognized College Touring Company is working with the CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS SELECTIVE ENROLLMENT to offer a SEVEN DAY East Coast College Tour for interested high school students to visit approximately a DOZEN East Coast Colleges/Universities. Cost: $20 must be paid by Wednesday, February 20th to Ms. Orozco located in room 212 (cash only). Students must stop in and see Mr. Wallace prior to submitting any payment to be approved for tour.

  • Seniors that have applied and been accepted to Michigan State and/or Kalamazoo (3.4 GPA or higher)
  • Juniors with a 2.75 GPA or higher

Indiana College Tour: Purdue & DePauw University

College Tour Time: 6:30 am-7:00 pm

What: Lane Tech will be offering upper-classmen the opportunity to ride a Coach Bus to visit two of Indiana’s most prestigious institutions. Purdue University, a larger public school and DePauw University, a small private liberal arts school.  Visit and see what it is like in a lecture hall, eat lunch on campus, meet admissions counselors, as well as Financial Aid and student panels.



REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Seniors and Juniors with minimum GPA 3.0 or Higher with a preferred Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math background.
  2. Students must get signed out of all classes.
  3. Seniors are highly encouraged to have submitted application material and have transcript, ACT results, personal statement, etc.. prepared
  4. Students can get permission slips and sign up in CCC RM 135 See Mr. Wallace


Cost: $20 must be paid by Friday November 30th to Ms. Orozco located in room 212 in form of cash or money order. Students must stop in and see Mr. Wallace prior to submitting any payment to be approved for tour.













Northern Illinois University Overnight College Tour


When: Thursday, November 15-16 (overnight trip)

College Tour Time: 8:00 am-4:00 pm Periods 1st-8th

REQUIREMENTS: Seniors with minimum GPA 2.4 YOU MUST GET SIGNED OUT OF ALL OF YOUR CLASSES.  Students must provide proof of their NIU application by providing NIU Z-Number.  Males are targeted and wanted for the tour.
