Junior Parent College Night

When: Thursday, March 2nd @ 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Where: Lane Tech HS - Auditorium

Description: Parents, the college search and application season is now here and we know that you and your students are eager to get started. Where do you began? You can start by joining the LT counseling team on Thursday, March 2nd for Junior Parent Night. We will discuss navigating the college search process, admission testing, the application process and financing your education. 

The doors will open at 5:00pm and the presentation will begin promptly at 5:30pm in the auditorium. The college application process can be grueling if you procrastinate, so let us help you get started by attending this important event!

Freshmen/Sophomore Parent Night

When: Monday, December 12th @5:30pm

Where: Lane Tech HS - Student Cafeteria

Description: We will be hosting a 9th/10th grade Parent Night on Monday, December 12th. If you are the parent/guardian of a 9th or 10th grade student and you would like to join our informational session please register at the link below. We will be presenting on important topics which include: curriculum, graduation requirements, preparing for final exams, etc. We will have time at the end of the presentation for Q & A. There will also be an informational session for sophomore parents regarding early graduation.

LadderUP FAFSA Completion Assistance

When: During lunch periods (October 11, 18, 25th)

Where: CCC

Description:  Experts from LadderUP will be available to assist seniors to complete their FAFSA and answer any financial aid questions. There is no need to RSVP.  Just show up with your FAFSA documents and questions! Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend!

Description:  Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be conducting two Financial Aid Seminars (English and Spanish) to assist families in financing their college dreams.  ISAC will discuss the FAFSA, how to apply, updates, proper documents needed, etc.  You will have the opportunity to have all your questions answered.  (Workshop is intended for Junior parents)

The Realities of College Athletic Recruiting

When: Monday, February 29th @ 7:00 PM

Where: Auditorium

Description: Everyone wants to give advice and everyone believes they know all the answers!  Finally, a program that does just that! It gives the answers in a straightforward, no nonsense, entertaining 50-minute presentation.  We have made an investment as a community to provide our student-athletes and parents with information about playing college athletics.  
If your son or daughter truly has aspirations to play at the next level, this is a "can't miss" event.

Presented by Jack Renkens. Former college coach and recruiting expert, Jack Renkens has helped thousands of families around the country head down the right path of finding scholarships.  Often it's down a path they didn't know existed.

LadderUP FAFSA Completion Assistance

Details:  If you would like a 2nd or 3rd or 4th set of eyes on your essay or just need some help getting started on your applications, the counselors will be available to assist you (if you have a November 1 deadline this is a great opportunity to double check all of your application requirements are in order).

Minnesota College Tour - Fall 2015 - Informational Meeting

When: Thursday, June 4th at 3:30

Details:
• Are you a SOPHOMORE with a 3.8 GPA (weighted) or Higher?
• Are you interested in visiting FOUR amazing colleges in the
Minnesota? (Carleton College, St. Olaf College, Macalester College, University of Minnesota)
• If so, then come to an INFORMATIONAL meeting on Thursday, June 4th at 3:30 pm in Room 224

Chaperons will be talking about the trip application and cost. We will also talk about the four schools we will be visiting -- all of which have GREAT reputations for giving money to students who need it.

Junior College Planning Workshop

When: Saturday, May 30th @ 8am-11:30am

Where: CCC

Description: The counselors and teachers have partnered to assist you with the college search, financial aid, college application & essay writing process. Students will rotate through 4 different workshops from 8-11:30am on Saturday, May 30. The cost of the workshop is $15 and includes the book, "College Match: A Blueprint For Choosing the Best School for You." Don't miss this opportunity!

Registration is two-fold. Complete the online form and submit your payment after school in the College and Career Center on Tuesday, May 26 or Wednesday, May 27.

Study Abroad Opportunities & Financial Assistance

Study Abroad Programs - The Experiment

When: Wednesday, November 12th at 2:30 PM

Where: CCC

What: Learn about summer study abroad programs! All students welcomed!

Details: The Experiment in International Living has been offering immersive experiential learning programs abroad since 1932. Today, The Experiment offers summer programs for high school students in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia and the Pacific. Students are challenged to explore the host country through hands-on experiences in local communities and through the lens of a specific theme.

Details: The PTSO is hosting a college application and essay help session after school on Wednesday, October 22 from 2:30-4pm in the CCC. If you would like a 2nd or 3rd or 4th set of eyes on your essay or just need some help getting started on your applications the PTSO is partnering with the counselors and English Teachers to assist you (if you have a November 1 deadline this is a great opportunity to double check all of your application requirements are in order).

QuestBridge Scholarship Presentation

When: Wednesday, September 10th @ 2:35pm

Where: CCC

Details:  Lane alumn and QuestBridge recipient, Nushrat Jahan ('14), will be presenting to juniors and seniors about the QuestBridge Scholarship program.  

QuestBridge is a non-profit organization that helps high-achieving low-income students apply for full-need scholarships to top-tier colleges, including Yale, Stanford, Penn, UChicago, Columbia, and MIT. 

QuestBridge offers the College Prep Scholarship for high school juniors, which helps educate them about the college admissions process and the generous financial aid opportunities that make it possible for motivated low-income students to attend a leading colleges essentially for free. There’s also the National College Match for high school seniors, which helps them gain admission to some of the nation’s best colleges with full four-year scholarships.

Nushrat was a successful QuestBridge finalist in the 2013-2014 school year and currently attending The University of Chicago. She has first hand experience with the QuestBridge application process, and wants to help younger high school students benefit from the same opportunities that she had. One of her goals is to spread awareness about this program to local high school students.

May 1st Decision Day Celebration!


When: Wednesday, May 1st during Division @ 8:00am

Description: May 1st is National College Decision Day when seniors announce their college of attendance in the Fall.  So represent your college...wear college apparel (t-shirts, hoodies), paint your face, or wave your college pendant.  Prizes will be given out to the senior with the most school spirit!

Gates Millennium Scholars Program - Information Session

When: Saturday, November 17th 9:30-11:30

Description:  The Gates Millennium Scholars Program would like to inform you about a great opportunity for your high achieving minority students. Yes, he is back by popular demand, Ryan Davis, representative from The Gates Millennium Scholars Program will return to Chicago to address CPS male students and parents about vital information for completing the scholarship application.

Requirements: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American. Citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States.  Cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) at the time of nomination.  Demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

College Application Workshop - Seniors

When: October 29th - November 2nd; during 4th, 5th, 6th periods and after school

Description: All seniors are welcome to drop in the CCC for assistance with their college applications.  The CCC will be reserved for seniors only!  Counselors will be on hand to assist with your essays, common application, college applications, requesting teacher recommendations, transcript requests, and even help you decide which college is the best fit for you.  Plus, you will have quiet time to complete your college applications on your own if you wish. 

Do not miss out on this great opportunity.  It is to your benefit to get your college applications in early so you have top priority on admissions, scholarships, financial aid, and on-campus housing.
