The LCBA was formed in July of 1998 to help educate its members and the public about beekeeping and to serve as a forum for discussion among its members on all topics related to beekeeping. Membership: Membership is open to anyone who resides in Lanark County and the surrounding area. Membership is renewed annually and runs from November to the following October. Annual membership dues are $20 per household and are typically paid at the fall meeting or mailed to Amanda Brown (see below for mailing address). If your dues have been paid, you will automatically be mailed or e-mailed new issues of the Buzzette (4 per year). Resources: The club has a number of books, videos and an extractor that members can borrow. Books and videos are available from Clem O'Rourke at every meeting. The two-frame hand-crank extractor is also available from Clem, (613) 267-6314. Meetings:
The club meets 4 times per year, winter, spring, summer and fall. Meeting locations are announced prior to each meeting in the Buzzette, which is emailed to members. The Summer Field Day meeting is held at a member's bee-yard while other meetings are held at area community halls. The fall meeting is the AGM where annual reports are presented and elections of new officers are conducted.. Winter, spring and fall meetings typically include a guest speaker, such as someone from the Ministry of Agriculture or the Ontario Beekeepers' Association, or member beekeepers who address subjects such as pest management, beekeeping practices, and current beekeeping industry issues. The Summer Field Day is a "hands-on" meeting - a great opportunity for novice beekeepers to work with more experienced members through demonstrations and workshops. Communications: Prior to each meeting, an issue of the Buzzette, the LCBA newsletter, is sent to members announcing the time, location and agenda for the meeting.
