The LCBA was formed in July of 1998 to help educate its members and the public about beekeeping and to serve as a forum for discussion amongst its members on all topics related to beekeeping.
Membership is open to anyone who resides in Lanark County and the surrounding area. Member is renewed annually and runs from November to the following October. Annual membership dues are 15$ per household and are typically paid at the fall meeting or mailed to Dominic Richens (see copies of the Buzzette for his mailing address).
If your dues have been paid, you will automatically be mailed or e-mail new issues of the Buzzette (4 per year).
The club has a number books, videos and two extractors that members can borrow. The library is currently managed by Diane Leroux and is available at every meeting. The two-frame hand-crank extractors are available through either Jennifer Russel or Dominic Richens.
The club meets 4 times per year. Meetings are currently held at the Ferguson's Falls Community Hall, except for the Summer "field day" meeting which is usually held at a member's bee-yard.
The Fall meeting is our AGM - annual reports are presented and elections of new officers are conducted if necessary.
Winter and Spring meetings typically have a guest speaker, such as someone from the Ministry of Agriculture or the Ontario Bee Association to talk about subjects such as market trends or pest management.
The Summer field day is a "hands-on" meeting - a great opportunity for novice beekeepers to work with more experienced members as a number of demonstrations are conducted.
Prior to each meeting, an issue of the Buzzette is sent to members announcing the time, location and agenda for the meeting.
