What Every Indian Should Know

India is a vast region that was not solidified into one country until the modern era. In period it was divided into many different empires, kingdoms and states. Within each of these were a myriad of tribes, each unique in regard to language, religion, and dress. While most modern religions were found within India during period the predominant religion was Hinduism.

The caste system strictly divides all of Hindu society throughout the SCA time frame. There are four basic classes, or varnas, in Hindu society: Brahman (priest), Kshatriya (warrior), Vaishya (merchant or farmer), and Shudra (laborer). Beyond the more obvious limitations of caste, society was strictly segregated. All social interactions were codified to the point of near ritual. Hundreds of texts were written to educate the populous on how they should think and behave.
