Ian Wallace for District Councillor Ward B - Township of Muskoka Lakes

Ian Wallace

Ward “B” Candidate for District Councillor

Township of Muskoka Lakes

My wife Joan and I live on Brackenrig Rd on southern Lake Rosseau. We are so fortunate to have three children and five grandchildren living and working in and around this beautiful Muskoka. Having lived year round in Muskoka for 17 years we understand and respect the needs of both permanent and seasonal residents.

In 2003, I ran for public office as a Councillor and I am proud of the many Council accomplishments during the last seven years including:

• The first improvements since 1936 to our 2 urban centres (Bala and Port Carling),

• Improvements to our fire department,

• Creation Township Tourist/Visitor Centre,

• Creation Website,

• Passing sweeping and tough bylaws to protect this precious Muskoka,

• Supporting the Roads Dept with the tools needed to do the job,

• Upgrades to roads, bridges, arenas, sports parks, community centres,

• Creation of annual Clean Up Day,

• Supporting volunteer and employee appreciation programs,

• Introduction and creation of a Township/Corporate Identity Program,

• Hiring the first Treasurer/ Chartered Accountant in the Township history,

• Building and upgrading docks and public ramps,

• Walking trail improvements.

Committee service:

• Council,                                  • Committee of Adjustment,

• Planning,                                • Management and Services,

• Heritage,                                 • Communities in Bloom (Chair),

• Parks and Recreation (Chair),   • Website,

• Economic Development,           • Community Clean Up (Chair)

• Corporate Identity (Signage)

Community Involvement:

• Lions Club

• United Church

• MLA Water tester

• Curling Club

• Minor Hockey

• ACO

• Habitat for Humanity

• Liaison to Raymond,

Windermere, Ullswater and Hekkla Community Halls

In 2005, 3 volunteers and I created the largest historical digital mosaic in the world on the side of an old building in Port Carling. This project, affectionately known as “The Wall” was totally funded by private donations and today is the largest tourist attraction in our township. This project was given as a gift to the Township of Muskoka Lakes.

I seek the position of Township and District of Muskoka Councillor. I stand for controlled growth, absolute protection of the environment, smaller government and POSITIVE THINKING.

Respectfully yours,

Ian Wallace
