About

Welcome Lake Clear Naturalists!

The Lake Clear Nature Notebook is a collection of information on some of the natural features of Lake Clear contributed by the Ottawa River Institute, the Bonnechere River Watershed Project, Ottawa Riverkeeper, the Pembroke Area Field Naturalists and individuals that builds on information first gathered by the late Chris Michener on the flora and fauna of Green and Twin islands in the early millennium.

Chris, a long time resident of the Ottawa Valley, was a skilled naturalist and visionary citizen scientist who dearly loved all of his fellow creatures, right down to the tiniest snow flea. In 2009, Chris spearheaded a collaborative project between the Ottawa River Institute, the Pembroke Area Field Naturalists and Bird Studies Canada to create a "Citizen Science" flora and fauna database for Renfrew County referred to as the Renfrew County Biotabase.

The intent was not just to track the species of plants and animals that are found in Renfrew County, but also to involve anyone with similar interests. Chris believed that the more attention given to the myriad species around us the greater the chances we would care for and protect them thus preserving the wealth of intact ecosystems and rich biodiversity for future generations.

This Notebook endeavours to encourage and support Chris's approach for those interested in the natural heritage features of Lake Clear.
