"COACH B" WOULD BE PROUD
Clearview Explodes in 2nd Half to Win Coaches Vs. Cancer Benefit Game

2/4/16 - In a hard fought contest on a very emotional evening, Clearview sophomore guard Julia Michael hit three 3 point baskets on her way to a team high 13 points and the Lady 'PIoneers defeated Deptford 46-36 in a Tri County Conference crossover matchup.  Clearview trailed by 3 at halftime but blew open the game during the third and fourth periods, outscoring the Spartans 31-16 in the second half.  Junior forward Jess Cirone matched her career high with 12 points while sophomore forward Elaina Hansen also reached double figures with 10.  For Deptford, junior guard Juliette Tobin took game scoring honors with 17 (including 2 three pointers) while fellow junior guard Corrin Williams had three 3 pointers on her way to 10 points for the game.  Click HERE for the box score.

The game was played in honor of former Deptford and Clearview coach Bob Burrough, who passed away due to complications from esophageal cancer surgery in September.  "Coach B" had been the Lady Pioneers freshman coach for the past 11 seasons and both Darlene Burrough (Bob's wife) and Clearview Coach Neil Bress spoke to the crowd prior to tipoff.  The Lady Pioneers decorated the wall behind the basket with "100 Reasons We Love
Coach B" and so many of Coach Burrough's former students from Deptford and players from both schools were in attendance.

Clearview travels to Eastern High School on Sunday for an 11:30am tipoff against Colonial Conference power Haddon Heights.  The game is part of the consolation bracket of the South Jersey Invitational Basketball Tournament.

A SCOOP OF HOOPS
from Coach Bress

January 31, 2016

It was an interesting week for the Lady Pioneers as we got a chance to play against two of the top freshmen players in South Jersey.  Highland's Azana Baines is a legitimate scorer with three point range and the athletic ability to go coast to coast at any time while Hammonton's Sara Peretti is a very physical post player who either scores or goes to the free throw line every time she gets the ball in the paint.  I was very proud of our girls as we held both players to below their season scoring averages and although we were not able to put a blemish on Highland's undefeated record, we were able to avenge our earlier loss to Hammonton and score a season high 58 points in the process.

This week features a rematch at Williamstown with the always tough Lady Braves on Tuesday and on Thursday, we will join with the Deptford Spartans to honor the memory of Coach Bob Burrough.  Proceeds from the Deptford game will benefit the Coach Burrough "Pay It Forward" Campaign.  Then, next Sunday, we will face Colonial Conference contender Haddon Heights in the consolation round of the SJIBT.  That game will be played at Eastern High School with tip off at 11:30am.

We hope to see on Thursday to honor Coach "B" and make sure you check out the state of art scoreboards that were installed over the weekend at The Hank!

    Go LPB!

The entire South Jersey sports community has lost a great man as Coach Bob "Blade" Burrough passed away due to complications from recent surgery.  Following a very successful teaching and coaching career at Deptford, Coach "B" became a fixture at Clearview and had been the freshman coach for the Lady Pioneers since the 2004-05 season.  The Clearview Girls Basketball Family sends the most sincere condolences to his wife Darlene, daughter Jaime, son Robert and grandchildren Nolan, Cecelia, Kara and Maggie.  We promise to "pay it forward" and will honor his memory during the 2015-16 season.
