A SCOOP OF HOOPS
from Coach Bress

March 19, 2017

Dear LPB,

I had the pleasure of coaching the South (Blue) Team at the Al Carino Girls Basketball Club Senior All Star Game yesterday at Paul VI High School, which meant that I was the coach for Jordan Harbaugh's last game representing Clearview and LPB.  All Star games (at least from my point of view) are about getting the players about the same amount of time on the floor, so although our Blue Team had less points on the scoreboard at the end of the game, to say we are the "losers" is not correct.  Every one of the girls on both teams is a winner!  I want to thank Terry Durkin and the Carino Club for allowing me to end my coaching career in the game along with my co-coach, Lauren Kendra from Haddon Heights, fellow Tri-County Conference coach Jay Senft from Highland and Bernie Hynson from Woodrow Wilson.

Jordan had an amazing senior year and a remarkable career and she will receive more accolades at the Carino Club Awards Banquet on Tuesday.  She has been selected to the All South Jersey 2nd Team and the All Group IV Team by the Club, and will also earn recognition from the Philadelphia InquirerCourier-Post and Star-Ledger/NJ.com for their All South Jersey teams.

One other note for this week's "Scoop" is the resignation/retirement of my very good friend Ron Wister, the boys head coach at Haddon Township for the past 27 years.  "Wis" and I were roommates at Temple, he is my daughter Allyson's godfather and got me involved with coaching as a volunteer assistant at Collingswood (when he was Mark Ritter's JV coach) and then as Freshman coach when he took over at Haddon Township.  Along with Ritter, former Clearview boys coach Jim Woolbert and the late Bob Burrough, Ronnie was one of my coaching mentors and was very instrumental in any success I have achieved in my 25 years of boys and girls coaching on the Freshman, JV and Varsity levels at Haddon Township and Clearview. Much love and respect to my buddy and best wishes for the future for Ronnie, Barb, Zach and Luke!
