Millennium Green

The Millennium Green provides an open air centre for the village.

A playing field, all-weather paths, protected play area for children, picnic table and a wildflower meadow provide recreation for all with equal access for those with disabilities.

A true breathing space!

A tall Millennium Stone provides a focus and has a time capsule at its base, buried to mark the opening of the Green in 2001.  The Green is used for open-air events such as fêtes and a 'Toys for Boys' day. These, and other fund-raising activities such as quizzes, race nights and even a Blues Night, pay for the costs of maintenance and help to stimulate village life.

Events:

Future events are being organised by the Ladbroke Matters team to raise funds for both the Millennium Green and Village Hall. Please see the Forthcoming Events page for information.

Activities over the last few years:
  • Various live music events - The Ladbroke Rockers and The Blooze Kings had the hall filled with toe tapping and dancing locals as these talented bands raised the decibels.
  • Murder Mystery Dinner A sold out evening with the diners watching a murder unfold on the stage and piecing together evidence between courses to work out Who Dunnit.
  • Wine Tasting  Rob & Libby Darlison of CANA wines, Harbury brought along a choice of 22 wines, though it was not compulsory to try them all!
  • Quiz Night This annual-ish event sees the Village Hall packed with teams of 4 with their thinking caps on,  enjoying the challenge of recalling answers in the depths of their memories, the company of friends and a fish & chip supper.
  • The Safari Supper involved more than 40 villagers eating each course at a different home. It is always a good social event and a good fundraiser, too.
  • Chicken Supper and Traditional Race Night  In addition to munching their chicken and chips, villagers were actively involved in the races - reeling in their wooden horses cheered on by the excited crowd.
The Millennium Green is a charitable organisation managed on a volunteer basis.

Trustees
Kip Warr - Chairman
Gray Lewis - Treasurer
Debra Neal - Secretary

Events are organised to raise funds for regular maintenance such as cutting the grass and hedges by The Ladbroke Matters Team.  Members of the team and other villagers also do seasonal tasks to keep it tidy.  If you would like help at events or join the next working party please contact one of the trustees.

Some villagers also help to raise funds (at no cost to themselves!) by registering on easyfundraising.org.uk for donations from on-line purchases to come to Ladbroke Millennium Green Trust.  If you would like more information about this please contact the treasurer.
