In-school programs

In-school programs are available for pre-schools, nursery schools, elementary schools, afterschool and enrichment programs.  If your school does not yet have a consistent world language program, our groups are an excellent introduction.  Schools whose world language programs begin in upper grades often choose to introduce language with our immersion techniques  in the lower grades.

We offer three different courses by age group:

                                             Coucou!
                               Infants/Toddlers (30 minutes)
Because infants learn by seeing, hearing, imitating and practicing we use music, rhythm, and rhymes with hand gestures to introduce our youngest learners to French. During story time and free manipulative play we feature traditional and translated children’s books to help the infants and toddlers make direct connections between the spoken word and the object it represents.

                                              Bonjour!
Two and Three Year Olds (30 minutes)
In our two year old class we use traditional and contemporary children’s songs to build gross motor skills, anticipation, sequencing and aural competencies.  During story time we incorporate call and responses when reading traditional and translated children’s books to encourage our terrific twos to produce their first words in French.  We introduce role-playing and structured play to reinforce the context for each lesson’s vocabulary.

                                                Salut!
                                      Pre-school (45 minutes)

French in our pre-school class is true to life—full of songs, games, poems, stories, jokes, riddles and expressions that students can use immediately and will want to use outside of the classroom. In addition to song time and story time, we incorporate a fine motor skill activity/craft into each lesson to reinforce key concepts or vocabulary.  During a typical six-week class pre-K and kindergarten students will learn greetings and introductions, numbers, colors, body parts, weather, days of the week and more!

During the 2007 Winter Learning Lab students at the Gifted Resource Council we offered  Tout en français, a French immersion class with a Carnaval focus for the pre-K and kindergarden classes.  For Fall 2007, we are designing a pre-K/Kindergarten course for Springboard to Learning, and an elementary afterschool course for the Parkway Community Classes.
