Dr. Hung-Wei Yang is the Associate Professor of Medical Science & Technology at National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan. Dr. Yang and his colleagues carry out research on enabling fundamental and applied technology advancements in four main areas: 1) the design of NanoBiomaterial-based delivery systems for combination therapy (i.e., chemotherapy, gene therapy, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy) to treat single diseases, 2) the development of virus-like particles (VLPs)-based delivery systems for enhancing delivery of RNAi or vaccines, 3) the creation of microneedle patches to apply vaccines or drugs to the skin in a painless, minimally invasive manner, and 4) the development of smart biosensing system for rapid and accurate diagnosis of malignant diseases with low cost.

Studies in these areas are centered both on understanding the fundamental mechanisms involved in biomaterial function and applied clinical use of our compounds for advanced diagnostic and treatment strategies. Our research is highly interdisciplinary and students in the Yang lab routinely receive training in several areas of chemistry, materials, biology, and medicine. Our Lab also collaborates with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, National Taiwan University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Emory University.

We welcome all highly-motivated individuals joining our NBA lab to learn and design Drug Delivery and Biosensing Systems for medical applications. Interested undergraduate and graduate students should contact Professor Yang directly.
