KWELA Camp Monday 10th - Thursday 14th January 2022
Procedures:
Registration takes place on the 10th of January between 07h00 and 09h00 at Taaibosch Campsite in Durbanville. Parents will meet with the therapists and caregivers and be able to see that their child is settled in his/her tent. If time allows, parents can spend time with their child exploring the resort. Formal programme starts at 09h15. The children will all attend an introductory session within a large group. During this group session children will get to know each other, their caregivers and therapists. An overview of the week’s activities will be given and expectations discussed. An organized afternoon programme commences thereafter.
Children are housed in tents together with therapists and students. The grouping of the children here is done according to gender. Every child will be part of a small working group (8-10 children) and this grouping will be done according to age.
Four formal sessions are presented each day, this include:
· Sensory Integration in the SI laboratory
· Life skills session
· Perceptual motor group
· Creative activities
· Leisure time activities
Late afternoon activities will include various leisure activities, i.e. braai, treasure hunt, table games and concert.
There will be periods of free play during the day. During these sessions children can choose from organized activities, and therapists and caregivers will only be there to observe and facilitate where necessary. A tuck shop will be run during the afternoon. No money is needed for the tuck shop, as a token system will be implemented where children will be able to “earn” tokens for desired behaviour. The diet followed at the camp is fully balanced, but does not cater for special needs, i.e. diabetes. Where special dietary needs exist, parents must indicate this on the registration form.
Responsibility will be taken for medication where necessary. This will be managed by the tent staff and full details are recorded on the day of arrival. It is advised that no changes be made to their regular medication for the duration of the camp. Clear instructions need to accompany the medication. Medication will be kept in a safe place.
