About Me

I’m in my late thirties, originally from Hexham, Northumberland which is a market town about 20 miles west of Newcastle Upon Tyne

I started my working life as a trainee field service engineer for an Amusement machine company. After a couple of years working field service I spotted an advert in the back on one of the trade publications (Coinslot) for Slot technicians working on cruise ships in the Caribbean. Having always fancied travelling and keen to see a bit of life outside of a small market town I applied.

Initially I’d thought I’d go for 6 months, that ended up turning into 6 years and  I left having made it to Slot manager. I also met the love of my life who is now my wife. Working for Carnival was some of the best times of my life and it was a big decision to leave in 1997.  Time to return to the real world !  We returned in 1997 and we decided  to live in the South East, close to my then fiancé’s parents. We bought our first house in Chertsey and got married in 2000.
We bought our current house in 2004 and set about a full renovation and modernization which allowed me to install much of the cabling and equipment covered on this site.

I got my first job in IT working for a small car parts company and after a year managed to get a position with Procter & Gamble. After a few years P&G outsourced it’s IT division to Hewlet Packard.  I worked a number of positions within HP, my last role was one of Infrastructure Engineer managing Data networks, Voice Networks and Servers.

In December 2008 the customer (P&G) changed suppliers for Voice & Data networks and in July 2009 I was made redundant, which has given me plenty of time to build a website :-)

I’m currently working in a Data centre.
