Released in Japan in March 2004. similar version in english was released in america, europe and australia as the tamagotchi connection/connexion. This version was different from all the versions that came before it in many ways. the user could now use the infrared sensor and light to "connect" his or her pet to other tamagotchi units. The tamagotchis could make friends and even mate and produce a new generation like in the Mesutchi/Osutchi. The screen was enlarged to 32 x 32 pixels and two new icons were added. One new icon was one used for connecting and the other was for recording friends made by connecting. Below is a growth chart showing the characters in this version. One interesting difference between this and the english version is that in the japanese version, whenever the tamagotchi wakes up from a night's sleep, it gains another year (this includes naps!) even if it has not been 24 hours since it last woke up. However, in the english version it gains a year every 24 hours but this is not tied to its sleeping pattern. For example, look under the baby stage characters. It actually gains its first year after a nap even though it is only in the baby stage for about an hour from the time it hatches to the time it evolves. This characteristic is in all japanese versions after this (I don't know about before because I don't have any.) This characteristic is not present in any english versions.
