The Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) is a non-profit organization working internationally on behalf of all IC patients.  It has been largely through the efforts of the ICA that treatments are available and research is underway.  Its goals are: 

  • To provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on IC.
  • To provide patients, their families, and friends with a support network.
  • To educate the medical community and the public about IC.
  • To advocate in the public and private sectors for research funding and patients' rights.
  • To promote and provide research funding to find effective treatments and a cure for IC.  


The Interstitial Cystitis Network is a publishing company dedicated to interstitial cystitis and other pelvic pain disorders.  The ICN strives to present the best research, information, and support directly into the homes and offices of their users (patients, providers & IC researchers).  The ICN currently serves more than 200,000 patients a month in free education and support services (including a message board, online retail of IC products, and a newsletter).  The ICN, founded by an IC patient, began as an offshoot of one the largest IC support groups in the country in response to a need for support and education.  The IC Network provides rich information on many self help techniques, including diet.


ELMIRON (pentosan polysulfate sodium) is the first and only oral medication that’s been approved by the FDA for treating the pain or discomfort of interstitial cystitis (IC). It’s available by prescription only, and is believed to help repair and restore the damaged bladder lining.


P.U.R.E. H.O.P.E. (Pelvic and Urological Resources and Education Helping Others with Pelvic-Pain Everywhere) is a national non-profit patient led support group association that provides education and support locally, as well as advocates for and promotes pelvic pain research and education through conferences and partnering with the medical community.


Although not specifically dedicated to treating IC, this website is very informative on topics discussing women's health.  They are unique in that they offer the combination of alternative and conventional medicine in women’s health.
