KS Fire Council Plans MOU with KS Forest Service for Coordinator

posted May 1, 2012, 1:34 PM by Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition
The Kansas Fire Council has been in discussions with a number of its partners in an attempt to secure a statewide fire coordinator to help implement a Playa Lakes Joint Venture Conoco Phillips Grant they received in February.  The arrangement plan is to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the KS Forest Service to provide those services along with additional duties.  The details of that MOU are being worked out now.  Additionally, the Fire Council is working to enter into a cooperative agreement with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to supplement funding the statewide coordinator position.  Others involved and supporting this effort include The Nature Conservancy, Pheasants and Quail Forever, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism.  If all arrangements are secured the anticipated date for the new statewide fire coordinator is June 1, 2012.
