My research has focused on variety of topics regarding discourse and comprehension including human learning in intelligent tutoring environments, cognitive processes involved in learning from multiple and varied texts, critical thinking, and argumentation. My current research is focused on acts of disengagement during comprehension. Specifically, I have been investigating the occurrence of mind wandering when processing information in a variety of modalities (e.g., reading a book vs. listening to a lecture).
