Bridging Cultures: A Costa Rican Service Learning Experience
(April 13-23 2009)
In the summer of 2007, Mark, Dana and Kristina received a grant through Fund For Teachers to travel to Costa Rica. Our ultimate goal is to bring a group of our students on a community service trip their senior year using the network we have established.
Bridging Cultures is designed to honor our graduating seniors and to celebrate their years of success at FHS. Students will participate in service learning opportunities as well as ecotourism to learn about Costa Rican history, culture and tradition. We will visit a volcano in Arenal, the Cloud Forest of Monteverde and travel to the village of Nosara located in the Guanacaste Coast. Service learning opportunities include painting an elementary school, volunteering in one of the only public libraries in the countries and leading English lessons and community building activities in the local high school in Nosara.
