Consulting Work
Kristina served as a Research Appointee at Argonne National Lab from January 2013 until August 2015. During this time she performed data analysis by writing custom MATLAB programs. Documents such as this were the final product of some of her efforts.
Kristina is currently looking for consulting work to supplement her job as a professor. Consulting allows Kristina to stay in-touch with the engineering field while teaching. If you are interested in working with Kristina, email her at KristinaLawyer@gmail.com.
Graduate Education
Undergraduate Education
Kristina attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from August '04 to May '08 when she received her BS in Mechanical Engineering (ME). During those 4 years, Kristina worked at the Homework Hotline tutoring K-12 students in math and science over the phone, and in the Development Office where she assisted the Director of Annual Giving. In addition to the standard ME curriculum, Kristina took courses in theoretical aerodynamics, internal combustion engines, and computational fluid dynamics.
As an undergraduate at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Kristina was a member of two research teams. One of which, working through the Rose-Hulman Chemistry Department, researched two-stroke engine oils for Hoosier Biodiesel Company of Evansville, Indiana. From August '07 to May '08 Kristina conducted lubricity and longevity tests on oils for the group. The group demonstrated that canola oil-based biodiesel has superior lubricity to both soy-based biodiesel and mineral-based synthetic lubricants. The group also published a SAE paper, 2008-01-1718, on their findings in 2008.
More prominently Kristina was involved with the Rose-Hulman ChallengeX team from May '06 to May '08. ChallengeX was a 4 year hybrid vehicle design competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy and General Motors. ChallengeX ended in the spring of 2008 and another similar competition, EcoCar, was created in its place. During her time on the Rose-Hulman ChallengeX team Kristina was in charge of collecting engine data from May '06 to September '06, the leader of the Engine & Emissions sub-team from September '06 to September '07, and the overall team leader from September '07 to May '08. This experience gave her an overall understanding of hybrid vehicles and experience in operating an engine dynamometer and emissions equipment, component fabrication, group management and conflict resolution, and also led to herÂ
graduate research.
