KPD HISTORY

History of KP Dragons

The story of KP Dragons begins with Chris Yee, a former paddler with the Tazmanian Angels. In 2001, the late Susan Chan-Lim, former president of KPAA, asked Chris Yee to start a Kaiser dragon boat team. KP Dragons was soon formed with Kaiser Permanente employees from the Richmond, Oakland, San Francisco facilities and the Berkeley Lab.

Today, KP Dragons is a team of dragon boat paddlers made up of spirited KP employees as well as community members who represent our diverse Bay Area community. Our members represent many cultures, ages, ethnicity, and professions.  We all believe in being fit and having fun and have not wavered away from the founders goals of collaborative teamwork and dedication to health. KP Dragons is now an incorporated nonprofit and also have a social mission to support a team of youths from Oakland public schools and its neighboring communities.
