Report of 1st concert


 

People those were present on the 15 December 2007 at Vivekanada Hall, Jadavpur University – one and all enjoyed Kolkata Aitijjhya’s brilliant program. All appreciated the thoughts behind the designing of this program. The ambience was charming, the talk and the Khyal performances both highly enjoyable.

Prof. Amlan Dasgupta
Prof. Amlan Dasgupta played some very audio clippings from the old recordings, Ustd. Badal Khan [Bhairav-Bahar], Ustd. Barkat Ali Khan [sitar],  Johra Bai Agrewali [vocal, Gaud Sarang], Mallikarjun Mansoor [Multani], Ustd. Ameer Khan [Shree], Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra [Loom Sarang, Sarode] and others.





Prof. Sugata Marjit
Next item was the Khyal by Dr. Sugata Marjit. Dr. Marjit started with Raga Patdeep, an afternoon raga, where he sang on the lines of Gwalior gharana – that he learn from his first vocal teacher who was a student of Pt. Vinayak Rao Patwardhan. After this he sang Bahar in Rangeela style as learnt from his teacher Keshtobabu who was a disciple of legendary Pt. Bhismadev Chattopadhyay. After this he sang a Bengali Khyal on raga Behag. Finally, on audience request he presented raga Jaijawanti. The audience was enthralled with the performance. One can easily hear to the warm responses during Sugata’s vocal recital. Aurobindo Bhattacharjee was on the tabla and Dipankar Mukherjee on the harmonium.
