Adults get cold as well as children, so when Aid-in-Milan found they were in need of adult-sized winter coats the Howard Heath Council #7587 Knights of Columbus delivered an additional 56 coats right before Christmas bringing the total coat collection to 164 coats for the 2015 season.
Originally the council brought infant though adult sizes but with the increased need for adult sizes the council purchased men’s and ladies large, extra large and 2X sizes.
The coats are purchased each year in all colors with current fashion trends.
Spokesman and program coordinator, Dave Smith, said the parishioners at Immaculate Conception Parish donated to the cause, “helping us to exceed our goal.”
Aid-in-Milan program director, Amy Doyle, said the parish was very generous.  Volunteer and member, Bob Walther, added the council doesn’t do fundraising for this event.  “Members of the church are so generous, all the money is donated,” he said.
Board secretary Mary O’Hare accepted the coats and expressed the institution’s gratitude for the donation.  She said volunteers would sort the coats according to gender and size.  Distribution began in December and recipients had appointment times to shop when volunteers were available.
O’Hare also said if a member of the community needs a coat and are not a current client they should feel free to stop in and make their needs known.
The council meets on the first Tuesday of the month. Though there are nearly 100 members in the council, they are always looking for new members that are interested in volunteering and helping people in the community.
For more information on the local council inquire at the Milan Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish located at 420 North Street or call 439-2030. For information on the fraternal organization, visit www.kofc.org.
