Recipients of this year’s sale were Helping Hands (L - with Ron Timmers), the Rayjon/Uganda girls’ school project (C - with Maria and Rene Van Bommel) and the local women’s shelter – Women’s Rural Resource Center (R - with Corey Allison).

A total of $1315.50 was raised from items donated to the Knights of Columbus sale and divided three ways amongst the recipient groups. A large quantity of furniture, house and garden ware, toys, books, CD’s and videos was donated and stored in Knight Lawrence Buren’s garage before the sale.

Thanks to those members (and wives) of the Knights, Helping Hands/Society of St. Vincent DePaul Conference who carried, sorted and sold the items. Special thanks to Br. René Van Bommel who organized the project and provided transportation for the sale items and Br. Lawrence Buren for storing the donations. Also, thanks to the St. Vincent dePaul Economy Shop for taking in the left-over items.

Christmas Collection for Fresh Start/Rehoboth Home

A two weekend collection campaign but Council 7570 of the Knights of Columbus at All Saints Church, Strathroy, ON resulted in two van loads of supplies for expectant mothers and new borne babies at Rehoboth Home in St. Thomas.  A baby crib was set up in the church narthex for the collection. Pictured are Grand Knight Jerry Vens (L) and Pro-Life Director Ted Thuss (R). Cash was also donated so that the Home can provide items not donated.

Council 7570 provides ongoing monthly donations to Fresh Start but the Christmas collection involves the entire Parish and provides items for young mothers that they may otherwise not receive.

Church Painting Project

Under the direction of Linda Van Heule, see here with Peter Thuss of All Saints Parish, Strathroy, ON parishioners and Knights came together to paint All Saints Parish Family Center and hallway to the basement meeting rooms. Several Knights, joined with Pastor and Council 7570 Chaplain, Fr. John Pirt,   finished the project over a couple of days. Linda and the Knights must have done an excellent job as Fr. John has plans to paint the Church in the new year. Also pictured are Fr. John on the ladder (no, that doesn’t get you any closer to Heaven) and Knights Lyle Hendrikx and Ted Thuss.

VON Service Van

After years of supporting the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) Foot Care Clinic, Council switched their support of the VON to their transportation services after discontinuation of the foot care clinic. It has now been taken over by a community service. The VON provides transportation to medical services for clients unable to provide their own transportation. Support by Council helps subsidize this service. Since 1991 Council 7570 in Strathroy, Ontario has provided $50,000 to the VON. The Council name and logo have been applied to both sides of the van.

Pictured are Michelle McKay of the VON and Jerry Vens, Grand Knight of Council 7570.
