Summary
Recent manifestations by the “Occupy Wall Street” movement have put inequality and poverty again high on the political agenda. The fact that income inequality on the global scale is astonishingly high and that more than 1.3 billion people have to survive with less than 1$/a day, is felt unfair by many. Have inequality and poverty been decreasing during the recent decades? Why is that so? In this short course, Koen Decancq will introduce the recent scholarly insights on global justice, the measurement of global inequality and poverty, its multidimensionality and the possible policy remedies.
