About Me

I am an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University's Institute of Data Science and the Maastricht Law & Tech Lab. My background is in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Semantic Web and Software Engineering. My PhD was jointly conducted at the University of Manchester, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal under the supervision of Tommie MeyerUli Sattler, and Deshen Moodley. I focused on extending Description Logics to be able to represent and reason about certain kinds of defeasible knowledge, and I showed that some forms of defeasible inference for DLs would have scalable performance for real-world ontologies should they include defeasible knowledge.

My current research interests lie in the use of Knowledge Graph representations and other computational methods (both knowledge-driven and data-driven) to:

1) Capture patterns in how legal decision making is executed in EU court decisions, and
2) Develop suggestions for improving the consistency in how these decisions are made.
