Update 8/5

posted Aug 6, 2013, 1:13 PM by Kansas Nebraska Disaster Relief   [ updated Sep 16, 2013, 7:43 AM ]

Many storms hit our areas last night.  We seemed to have fared pretty well compared to what Emergency Management personnel thought we might be seeing.

At this time we have a team at Trinity United Methodist preparing 75 sack lunches for Red Cross.  Rick Hopper is out doing some follow up on storm damage in Eldorado.

We do have confirmation that there are folks in or around the Inman area that are being evacuated.  CrossPoint Hutchinson has offered the use of their 6x6 to assist if needed.

Update 8/4

Hutchinson, KS - ARC asked us to prepare special menu meals for 50 patients temporarily housed at Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Fire chief also asked for meal support for first responders. Recently picked up another request for 200 more as a local trailer park has been evacuated. These victims are being housed in a local Methodist church and we will set up a second cooking site there. We anticipate feeding first meal this evening and breakfast tomorrow morning at OLG and Methodist churches. We don't know the need beyond that. Weather will determine our response. Using local facilities and local volunteers. Still assessing clean up operations. We are activating kitchen teams, not the field kitchen unit at this time.

Edgar, NE - At the request of the Mayor of Edgar Nebraska, Ken Beckner and the Smoky Hill Baptist Association Chainsaw Recovery Team will deploy Monday. Ken assessed the area Saturday and determined it to be a one day operation. Doug Lee, Oregon Trail Baptist Association will liaison with the community of Edgar.

Damage Assessment in South Central and Easter Baptist associations are underway. I will update everyone as the situation changes.

Please share your assessments and information with Lora, John and Patty Lucas, and I. Situational awareness is our goal and how good we are at that task will determine how well we support victims of disaster.

Thank you for stepping up to serve and minister in the name of our Lord Jesus.

Respectfully,
      LT
