Knoxville Chapter of TSPE - Monthly Meeting - August 26, 2020

posted Aug 13, 2020, 12:29 PM by Randall Whitehead

Chapter Members and Colleagues,

This month's meeting will again be online using the Zoom platform. A link to the meeting can be requested by emailing knoxtspe@gmail.com. The meeting will start at 11:30am.

This month’s speaker will be Mr. Reid Bailey, P.E. The title of his presentation will be: "GeoHazard Solutions for Tennessee Transportation Safety". Heavy and frequent storm events have caused many “GeoHazards” for Tennessee transportation infrastructure (Roads and Railroads).  The geohazards create a less safe travel way, and in some cases result in closure of transportation routes.  This can create many impacts to the traveling public and land based transportation shipping.  GeoStabilization International (GSI) specializes in solving these problems rapidly and have highlighted several projects that will show some of our GeoHazard Solutions for Tennessee Transportation Safety.

J. Reid Bailey, PE has 25 years of experience with design-build solutions for soil / infrastructure interaction failures. He is a licensed registered professional engineer in North Carolina and Guam. He has engineered and implemented creative design-build solutions to emergency landslide, sinkhole, and retaining system failures. He communicates professionally and effectively with clients throughout the United States, and is the first engineer / point of contact to look at emergency geohazard problems in TN, GA, FL, AL, AR, MS, LA, and TX. As a Senior Engineer at GSI, Reid specializes in pre-construction evaluation and contracting of GSI's largest and most complex projects.  This expertise has been developed over years of government contracting in specialty design-build projects.  His understanding of government contracting, GSI design-build geo-hazard mitigation capabilities, and his ability to recruit the best local subcontractors has led to many repeat business clients and multi-service agreements / IDIQ discussions and lettings with government clients. Reid has a BS in Engineering from the University of Georgia with a specialization in Soil and Water Mechanics.

Attendees will need to email knoxtspe@gmail.com requesting a PDH certificate (Free for Members/$10 for non-members).
