Our next chapter meeting will be Wednesday, August 31st at Bearden Banquet Hall, 5806 Kingston Pike. Lunch begins at 11:30.
Our speaker, Y-12 Historian Ray Smith, will be talking about the Manhattan Project National Historical Park.
Additional Speaker Information:
The designation of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park in December 2015 was the culmination of years of effort to recognize the World War II effort to develop the atomic bomb and transmit the story and legacy of the Manhattan Project to future generations. Y-12 Historian D. Ray Smith will be discussing the Park’s formation, purpose, and future. Mr. Smith worked for many years with others interested in the history of the Manhattan Project to lobby for the Park’s formation. He was one of 20 people participating in a 2015 Scholars’ Forum to brainstorm major themes for the park. As the former maintenance manager at the Y-12 National Security Complex and a frequent author and speaker on the history of the complex and Oak Ridge, Mr. Smith has a unique perspective on this subject. Please join us for this fascinating story.
Lunch & PDH for Members: $15
PDH only for Non-Members: $10
Please RSVP to Sharon if you plan to attend.
