It's Not Easy Being Green

Last month, I spent many hours learning about Greenworks Philadelphia, which is the City's ambitious 15-target plan for becoming the greenest city in America. I had seen a few stories about it here and there since Mayor Nutter kicked off the effort a year ago, but I had NO idea how large the scale of the effort is, how much work is going into it, and how many public and private partners it involves. I interviewed a dozen key contacts to gather specific information about the progress made over the past year, in areas ranging from tree planting and urban farming, to weatherization and energy conservation, to green jobs training. I handed over my research to the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, which is now putting together its first annual Greenworks Philadelphia Progress Report. I suspect readers will be impressed at how much has happened in just one year.
