MANDATORY PARENT NIGHT:Every student MUST ATTEND WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN to be eligible for the class. If the student and guardian do not attend the meeting, the student will be automatically dropped from the course and an alternate will be chosen.
CLASSROOM SCHEDULE:The first class meeting is Tuesday, February 14 in the Music Building Choir Room from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm. Attendance is mandatory. Up to two classes may be 'made-up' during the following Driver Education session (Summer 2017). Tardiness will not be tolerated except in extreme circumstances. The Driver Education Classroom and Behind-The-Wheel sessions are regulated by both the Hawaii Department of Education and the Hawaii Department of Transportation; therefore, missing any of the material is NOT AN OPTION. Your instructors will give further information regarding the class when you arrive.
BEHIND-THE-WHEEL (BTW) CLASSES:Students are required to complete 12 hours of BTW training (6 driving hours and 6 observation hours). We will begin scheduling Behind-the-Wheel appointments on or before the second week of classroom sessions and will likely finish sometime after the classroom portion is finished. BTW appointments are scheduled with the individual instructor after each BTW session. When scheduling BTW appointments, please do so with the intent of showing-up. Cancelled BTW appointments are rare, and should only occur in extreme circumstances.
Supervised Driving Log Hours (40 day, 10 night):
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that supervised driving log hours be completed IN BETWEEN BTW CLASSES. This is because students learn more effectively when the skills are practiced immediately after learning them in BTW.
