Kirstin Hubrich is a dedicated central bank economist with extensive international experience and broad expertise in monetary policy, financial stability and macroeconomics. Her career spans senior roles at major central banks, where she contributes to policy and analyses in areas critical to the global financial system. As a convinced European, her aim is to support and promote European and global financial stability within an increasingly complex global environment.
Career Highlights
Kirstin has held the role of Deputy Director General Financial Stability at the Deutsche Bundesbank since July 1, 2023. Prior to that appointment, she served as Head of International Economics at the Austrian Central Bank and Member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Eurosystem. From 2015 to 2022, Kirstin worked at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Federal Reserve Board). She joined the Federal Reserve Board as a Principal Economist in the Macroeconomic and Quantitative Studies Section and later was promoted to Chief of the Prices and Wages Section in the Research and Statistics Division. In her following role in the Program Direction of Research and Statistics, her responsibilities focused on the interaction between the financial system and the macroeconomy, financial projections and financial stability. She also served as the Federal Reserve Board Representative in the G7 Working Group on Digitalization. During this period she was also seconded to the Bank of International Settlements (BIS). Prior to her appointment to the Federal Reserve Board, Kirstin held various positions at the European Central Bank (ECB) over a 14-year period, namely in the Research Department as well as the Monetary Policy Department. Before joining the ECB, she worked as research fellow and economist at the Dutch Central Bank.
Kirstin received her Ph.D. from Humboldt University Berlin, where she was also Research Associate at the National Research Center of Excellence. She has published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of Business and Economics Statistics and the Journal of Econometrics, and has served as guest editor for the Journal of Applied Econometrics. In 2022 she was Visiting Professor at the Free University Berlin (Stiftungsprofessur der Deutschen Bundesbank), teaching empirical macro, monetary policy and empirical macro-finance at the Masters and PhD level. Prior, she was lecturer at Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany. She is a member of the Econometric Committee of the German Economic Association. In addition, she served as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN) from 2005-2009 and was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Austria from 2017-2022.
