Kip Sperry was born in Chardon, Geauga County, Ohio, graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Kip is a Professor Emeritus of Family History, Department of Church History & Doctrine, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. His specialty is United States family history research methods and sources. Kip is a fellow of three national organizations--American Society of Genealogists, National Genealogical Society, and the Utah Genealogical Association. He received the Richard Lloyd Anderson Research Award from BYU in March 2003, and the Harvey B. and Susan Easton Black Outstanding Publication Award in March 2015. He has received other national awards and honors, written books, chapters, and periodical articles, and lectured at national, regional, and local family history conferences. Kip enjoys teaching family history, research, writing articles and books, playing golf, swimming, traveling, and searching for his ancestors. Kip has visited and researched in Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Isle of Man, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland, Samoa, Switzerland, Tahiti, and Wales, and has visited Hawaii several times, including research in local archives and libraries. Daniel Kip Sperry was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated with honors from Orem High School in Orem, Utah, and graduated summa cum laude in biology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Daniel is an Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts of America) and served as a missionary in the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While at BYU he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, a National Merit scholar, and received the Garth L. Lee Undergraduate Teaching Award as a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. While an undergraduate at BYU, he was a contestant and winner on "Who Wants to Be A Super Millionaire?" which was filmed in New York City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RaPJyacASM). He enjoys playing golf and basketball, art, reading, watching movies, traveling, and playing the piano and organ.
While an undergraduate biology major at BYU, Daniel was co-author of a scholarly research article which was peer reviewed and published while he was in medical school, entitled “Nuclear Variants of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins,” published in BMC Cell Biology, volume 11 (15 March 2010). Daniel K. Sperry, MD, graduated with his medical degree from State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York, on 22 May 2011, where he specialized in family medicine (www.upstate.edu). Upon graduation, he received the Herbert Lourie MD Award from the College of Medicine. "This award is presented annually by the Graduate Student Council to a graduating student who displays those qualities and characteristics that endeared the late Dr. Herbert Lourie to all who interacted with him: dedication, gentility, thoughtfulness, philanthropy, compassion, and commitment to academic excellence."
Daniel was a resident physician at McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden, Utah, for three years, and is currently a physician with Intermountain Health Care in Draper, Utah, south of Salt Lake City.
