Beyond Atlanta Homeschool Days

These are homeschool days and opportunities that are beyond the metro Atlanta area. Please double check their website or call them to confirm prices and dates below.


North Georgia 

Elachee Nature Center - Gainesville, GA - The First Wednesday Home School Program Series engages home school students, ages 5 to 11 years in Kindergarten through 5th grade, with an exploration of Georgia habitats and ecosystems. The Junior Master Naturalist Program Series captivates home school students, grades 6-12, with hands-on exploration of Georgia habitats and ecosystems that covers many science and math standards. The program is 1:30 – 4 p.m., the first Wednesday each September through May. Annual and Semester registrations are available.


Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) - Gainesville, GA -  All homeschoolers get in for 1/2 price admission the 1st Tuesday of every month.


Sandy Creek Nature Center - Athens GA - Each month, home school students and parents are invited to explore the world of science by participating in our home school programs. Home School Science “Nature Journaling” for ages 8-18 years.  Home School Science Jr. “Observing Nature” for ages 4-7 years, with adult.

Fee: $4 ACC residents per class; $6 Non-residents per class.

Date: September 8, October 13, November 10

Time: Classes are all 10:00 a.m. - noon

Registration: Registration is online. Please pre-register at least one day before the class begins.



South Georgia 


Georgia 4- H Environmental Education - At certain times of the year Georgia 4-H Centers reserve space exclusively for individual families to sign up for overnight or day field studies. Our centers are normally open for groups, not individuals or single families. This is a great opportunity for individual families from all over the region to take part in our excellent programs and make new friends at the same time. Children are divided into groups with similar aged children for classes. Parents attend class with their children. Programs and locations will vary each season so check back here to see the current offerings.  Locations include Burton 4-H Center, Forston 4-H Center, Tidelands Nature Center, Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Tennessee 


Creative Discovery Museum - Chattanooga, TN -   Grades K to 5. Tuesdays or Thursdays from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. from September until April.  Stem Lessons for Home Schoolers -    Two different sessions. See website for cost and details.


Rock City/ Ruby Falls - One week in September - Students (ages 3-18) Rock City $7.00 each; Ruby Falls $7.00 each  Adults (19 & older)  Rock City $14.50 each  Ruby Falls $14.50 each


Dollywood - Great Smoky Mountains, TN - Home School Association Days August 7 thru September 29, 2017 - Tickets are $38.75 for students (ages 4 - 12th grade) and $51.05 for adults. *Students Purchasing Dollywood Admission Will Receive a Free Meal Voucher Valid at Select Park Restaurants. A world of Smoky Mountain adventure awaits Home School Families from across the country as Dollywood hosts Home School Day featuring exclusive activities, craft classes and demonstrations by Dollywood's master craftsmen, and catered picnic meal just for the Home School students and their families. Add on Homeschool Water Park valid August 7th through September 4th for $40.40. Reservations must be made 72 hours in advance.


Tennessee Aquarium -   Monday September 25, 2017  .Prices: Home School Students (on Home School Day only) pay: $8 Aquarium/$13 Aquarium + Imax,  Home School Parents (on Home School Day only) pay: $24.50/ $32.50 Aquarium + Imax Bring your family to the Aquarium for field trip prices on this special day.  We will offer behind-the-scenes tours for $6/person this day for children ages 6 and up.


Tennessee Aquarium -  Science Classes - Marine Ecology  -  The Tennessee Aquarium offers Life Science Programs to home school students each year. Second Tuesday of each month from September through March. Students visit the Aquarium for a two-hour class. The classes are based on national and state science standards and include hands-on experiments and inquiry. Classes are divided into grades (1st-2nd, 3rd - 4th,  5th - 7th, 8th - 10th).  Cost is $100/year for members and $130/yr for non-members.


Titanic Pigeon Forge - Homeschool rates available September - October 2017, December 12-30, 2017- $9 per child and 1 adult (each additional adult - $25). History, science, geography, language and social studies are fun to learn when boys and girls participate in the “teacher approved” TitanicScavenger Hunt at the World’s Largest Titanic Museum Attraction. Upon entering the World’s Largest Titanic Museum Attraction, students will receive a ‘boarding’ pass with the name of a passenger who made the maiden voyage. Using the ‘ship’ as a classroom, students learn life lessons… on their scavenger hunt sheet.

Alabama 


U.S. Space and Rocket Center -  Huntsville, AL -  Several Adventure Series to choose from as well as the below Homeschool Days.  Ages 6-12 Not updated for 2017-2018 yet

This Homeschool Exclusive Ultimate Field Trip is designed with age-appropriate STEM curriculum. The adventure includes a guided tour of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, a Mars Meal, an IMAX® or digital movie, museum simulator experience and “Back to the Moon” STEM lab. Students discuss items required for life and how the resources for those things could be found on other solar system bodies.  Students test soil samples looking for resources and conditions that would allow for the creation and sustainment of a colony.  Includes discussion of finding metals, finding carbonate and pH investigation. $25 per person.


North Carolina


Biltmore Estates - Asheville, NC  - Not updated for 2017-2018 yet September 22nd and 23rd, 2016  Take Part in the 15th Annual Homeschool Festival - The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad - This one-day ticket includes admission to Biltmore. All homeschool activities will be held at the Farm in Antler Hill Village and surrounding area. Workbooks will be emailed a week prior to the event, or are available for an additional cost when ordered in advance. Lunch and accommodation options available.
